Endless war trailer

Wargaming launched another CGI trailer for World of tanks. Maybe the population growth of WoT has dropped a bit? Not enough super peshings around here?(which will be removed from store by the way)

Second version of 8.6 test is up by the way. I doubt there will be a 3rd so patch day will be probably next week. I'd say stock up on gold shells people - HEAT and APCR WILL get more expensive for a number of tanks. It will hurt your credit income a lot. For some tanks using prem shells for silver will actually kill any chance for profit if you shoot more than 1-2...True there are things that might help - the increased income for high tiers and the so called "missions" might make using prem ammo more valuable...however let's buy cheap NOW rather than be sorry later.

Detailed info on the First global map campaign.

After the grand announcement with trailers and all - new info has come out for the grand campaign.

The first stage is called "Landlords"

Here's the WG announcement. I'm marking points of interest.

Ahem - to quote.

"

1.At the start of the first campaign’s initial stage the global map will be temporarily locked, starting from 08:50 to 13:00 CEST (GMT+2) on the 10th of June.
 2. At this time, a full wipe of the Global Map will be performed:
  • All provinces will become neutral
  • All scheduled battles will be cancelled
  • All chips will be returned to clan reserves and made available (their cooldown will be reset)
  • All spies and counter-spies will be removed from the map
  • Riots will be disabled. This also includes riots that have already started
  • Ransacks will be disabled
  • The income of ransacked provinces will be restored
3. The ‘Re-division of the World’ mode will be enabled. All provinces available on the Global Map will receive the status of landing province and will be available for landing applications.
4. All battles during ‘Re-division of the World’ will be performed on Tier I vehicles.
5. During ‘Re-division of the World’ the maximum number of applications for each landing tournament will be limited to 32. Every hour, the system will randomly shuffle last turn’s applications and add them to the end of the accepted applications. Once the limit is reached, all applications beyond 32 clan-participants will be cancelled. All chips used for such unsuccessful applications will be sent to the clan’s reserve without additional penalties (no cooldown).
Please note that NPC’s (neutral province owners) will lose in the case of a draw in the final battle with the landing clan.
6. The colour of the province background will chang from grey to pink and red, as available landing slots are filled. More clans applying for the same tournament will result in the colour changing to a darker red.
7. The global map will be closed for players on June 11th for one hour in order to start the  stage.
8. The ‘Re-division of the World’ mode will be turned off. All standard provinces will lose their ‘landing’ status and all chips that have not participated in landing tournaments will be returned to the clan’s reserve without additional penalties. The number of applications for each landing tournament will be extended to 256.
9. Victory points will be credited to all clans that have conquered at least one province during ‘Re-division of the World’. Clans will receive 1000 Victory points for each province owned.
10. Victory points will be credited to all clans that own provinces when the ‘Re-division of the World’ mode is disabled. All key provinces will have a 6 000 Gold daily income and have a special icon:
  • 5 000 Victory Points for each regular province
  • 15 000 Victory Points for each ‘key’ province
A List of ‘key’ provinces may be found below:
  • Arkhangelsk Region (East)
  • Tatarstan
  • Stalingrad
  • Najaf
  • Southern Finland
  • Kiev Region
  • Transylvania
  • Thrace

11. Automatic Victory Points distribution is enabled for each step until the end of the stage. Rules are as follows:
  • Capturing a regular province grants 5000 Victory Points
  • Capturing a key province grants 15000 Victory Points
  • Losing a regular province takes away 5000 Victory Points
  • Losing a key province takes away 15000 Victory Points
12. During the first stage Tier limits will start at Tier I and will be gradually increased during the stage. The schedule for these changes:
  • 10th of June. ‘Re-division of the world’. Tier I limit
  • 11th of June. Tier II limit
  • 12-13th of June. Tier III limit
  • 14-15th of June. Tier IV limit
  • 16-17th of June. Tier V limit
  • 18-19th of June. Tier VI limit.
13. After the first stage ends, Clan Wars will be locked in order to prepare for Stage II.
14. All clans that have owned at least one province during Stage I will receive 500 Victory Points. This amount does not depend on how many provinces the clan owned or the length of time they owned them.
15. Players of the clan that received the highest amount of Victory Points by the end of Stage I will receive a ‘By Iron and Blood’ achievement. To receive this medal, the player has to have participated in at least 5 battles in the first stage of the Campaign.
16. Players of clans that have the Top 5 Victory Points scores for the first Stage will receive a special clan tank (M60). To receive this tank, the player has to have participated in at least 5 battles in the first stage of the Campaign.
We would like to draw your attention to the fact that all special clan tanks will be credited after the Campaign ends.

17. Special achievements will be given to players of clans that are owners of specific territories by the end of the ‘Landlords’ stage. To receive one of these achievements, the player has to have participated in at least 5 battles in the first stage of the Campaign.

"

Ahem. 2 main points - one - the tier limits. We fight with tier 1 to 6! Awesome. I can dust off my hellcat and associates.

And also - the bit with the special tanks. I am not sure...but as far as I can see you need to be part of the clan, take part in battles AND stay as part of the clan for the whole campaign to get an M60.  That means the "hoppers" who'd join (or pay to join) a big clan to get an M60 will be limited. We don't know how many stages there are and a clan can't afford to pick a lot of average and bad players and let them play all the time. That could risk the entire enterprise.

Still - I find it decent at least. Its not impossible to win a landing in these circumstances and even hold it. A lot of small clans might get their first taste of global map gold. Don't forget that the event is, as far as schedule goes, staged to go AFTER patch 8.6, and in 8.6 its said a lot more global map regions would be open. Time will tell. There is barely 2 weeks until then.

World of tanks 8.5 T-60 light tank review

Right then, after playing some fights in the T-60 in the live server I believe I can give it its due.

Right now my verdict is...mediocre.

So, what do we get with the T-60? As we all know a good tank is a blend of armour, firepower and speed. Let's see how it fares in those 3.

First things first - in terms of speed and maneuverability its not impressive. The engine gets you there yes, but mostly at speed of 30 kmph. The tank loses speed quickly when maneuvering. The low ground clearance (30sm) rears its ugly head when you are faced with obstacles - even railroad tracks can stop you dead better than tank traps. Basically, you are not going anywhere  in a hurry and that will hurt you a lot.

In terms of defensiveness things are a bit better. The tank is very small, and hard to hit, especially at distance. The extreme slope of the UFP and the gun mantlet make you all but immune to autocannons from the front - a lot of ordinary guns will have issues penetrating as well, unless they hit below the gun shield or in the driver's hatch. The overmatching of the UFP that so many people were worried about was not an issue, at least for me. Only things with 75mm guns(read T18 and AT-2) could manage it, but its not as if any tier 2 tank can withstand those in the first place.

Finally we come to firepower.

In the firepower department things are less than impressive. Gun depression is very poor. So is the choice of guns. You have two options - the 20mm TnSH or the 37mm Zis-19. The Zis gun is a nerfed version of the one in the BT-2 and the T-26(I believe that's because the devs are trying to represent the fact that its a 1 man turret) You get  low RoF - 22 rpm, compared to the 26 for the other two soviet tier 2s and poor aiming time - 2.5 seconds. Combined with the fact that there is no separate gunner(who's skills would be enhanced by commander bonus in the BT-2 and T-26) it means that the T-60 aims very slowly, in addition to the lack of gun depression and low RoF.

The TnSh on the other hand is like a watered down version of the Mauser gun on the Pz I C - half the ammo in a clip, half the shots per burst, 50% bigger aim time...but you get a bit more damage per hit so its working in close combat. However, the T-60 often gets in fights with tier 3 tanks, where 28mm penetration is way too little.

To conclude - The T-60 is simply not impressive, and inferior to its rivals in the Soviet line. It needs either a buff, or the Pz I treatment - that is limit it to tier 2 battles. Giving it an improved 23mm VJa autocannon might be a good step - it will certainly make it distinct and give it a spot. Right now it lacks one.

Edit.

Let me rephrase what I said by lacking a spot. Its not just that its inferior to its mates. Its a technological dead end - there is no candy at the end of that line, you are tossed right back in the main tree. Pz I has the improved MM and the Pz I C as said candy. The T-60 has nothing on the table.

WoT funnies 3

There are several types of tankers.
The pessimist sees nothing but the endless dark forest of Murovanka.
The optimist sees the light at the end of it.
The realist is aware that the light probably spotted him already.

A Wot player is allowed a mistake only twice in a battle.
The repair kit will fix the first.

A Stalin 3 brings a Su- 26 to a high level battle.
Mid combat the enemy T-54 asks.
- Su-26 are you shooting gold?
- You can't prove anything!

An unnamed unicum from a big clan joins a random fight. T95 asks him:
- Dude, do they send you here as punishment or something?

World of tanks update 8.4 - tier 3 german light tank Pz.Kpfw. II Ausf. G or Panzer II G

In addition to the race car known as Panzer I C, update 8.4 will bring us the Panzer II ausf G, a machine that is by tactics, a polar opposite of the I C.

How and why?

First things first, let's describe the Pz II G. Standing at 11 tons when elited, with a crew of 3. Armour wise its similar to the Pz I C, though a bit bigger in size. In terms of speed and maneuverabilty though, the Panzer II G is nothing to brag about - the 65 kmph top speed is not something it can achieve by its own power.

To demostrate how it handles, here is a video of it.

The video brings us to the one specific point of the PZ II G - the gun. You will first encounter the 3cm M.K.103 gun on the Pz II G so you'd do best to learn its quirks now, because you will see it on the new Luch and leopard as well.

The 3cm is an autocannon, with a 3x2 magazine allowing for 180 damage per mag, and the quite impressive 95mm penetration(!) This is topped by poor accuracy, poor aim time and very long reload - 17-18 seconds.

Needless to say -95mm is quite the overkill for tier 3 and you will have no problems penetrating. The damage output however, combined with the slow reload mean that your offensive abilities at tier 3 are not very adequate. In comparison the 40mm Bofors on the Cruiser IV can dish out 200 points of damage every 5-6 seconds with better accuracy and aim time. Ok, so if you can't fight other tier 3 tanks, what CAN you fight? The answer is in the video as well - you fight big fish. 95mm is enough to punch through KV1, T-1 Heavy as well as Panzers, shermans and t34-s frontally. Thus where other tier 3 tanks can only grind their teeth in anger when placed in a tier 5 game, the Panzer II G, simply locks and loads. In this matter its a polar opposite of the Panzer I C.
