Patch 8.9 coming out this week and some thoughts on the japs

The patch is coming out in a few days so you better get ready for it. We'd all get a shiny new tier 2 as a reward for the Golden Joystick aaand a ton of paper TDs to shoot with HE.

Anyway. Now about the japs. With 8.9 basically at our doorstep, we can think about 9.0 and the japanese tree.

Now the tree as a whole follows some basic guide lines. The tier 3 is the Chi-Ha which we already know.

Next one is the Chi-He - very similar with a longer gun.

The following emerged about the Tier 7 - the Chi-Ri.

Its a 75mm autoloader with 3 round drum. The gun is a japanese copy of L/70. Now some may think that 75mm L/70 is a bit too shabby for tier 7 but I am not one of them. The tank will be the slowest tier 7 - capped at 45 kmph and not very well armoured, but on the other hand - its the maneuverability that counts. 3 round 75mm drum is not so bad as you might think. you will get 3x130 dmg and much faster reload times - If you have 12 RoF, the drum should be loaded in 10 seconds (less with modules and skills). Much better for pop and shoot than the 6 round drums of T71 and AMX 13-75. Of course if it has a poor engine and moves like a lame duck...

For the tier 10 - the following armour schematic emerged from FTR. I believe the best bit is the gun shield.
Its two part with outer and inner gun shield thats running a very respectable 300+mm when combined. However, the other tank with internal gun shield - FV4202 does not have it modeled so I'm a bit skeptical whether the STB-1 will get it done(and how).It is possible, since the STB-1 has an external gun shield, that WG can simply boost its thickest instead...but we will see.  There are still 2 months of 2013 left - plenty of time to release the japs. With the 2nd global campaign coming in a week, we certainly will be busy.

One more thing. With the purpose of the T7 combat car now being revealed ( Golden joystick reward) I can make a reasonable assumption that the New Year's eve Reward tank will be Vickers MK6

Golden Joystick award is the T7 combat car

http://worldoftanks.eu/en/news/46/golden-joystick-awards-2013-we-won/

Sooo WoT won the Golden Joystick...again. And this time we are given a T2 Prem tank as a reward. Eh, could be worse I guess.

The T7 Combat car is nothing impressive, but a free slot is a free slot.

World of tanks animations online

Just like everything else, WoT has gathered a number of fan works.

Jokes, art and photoshop aside - we have the animations.

Here are 3 of the top WoT animators on youtube.

First one is Ranzar, the most popular by far.

http://www.youtube.com/user/RanZarEng/videos

Ranzar updates fairly regularly and already made dozens of videos. There are also How To's for people who want to try making their own.

Next is Shootanimationstudio

http://www.youtube.com/user/ShootAnimationStudio/videos

They have both english and russian versions of their vids. (and censored and uncensored since there is some swearing here and there)

However not all of their stuff is translated yet.

Finally there is Studio70RU

They have much fewer vids but with good 3d animation.
http://www.youtube.com/user/studio70RU/videos

You don't need translation either since there is no text or voice. Jokes are quite good though. Especially the Blue oyster...

Got any suggestions ? Bring them on!

Second Global campaign rules

http://worldoftanks.eu/en/news/cw/second-campaign-rules/

It seems its time to brighten up the CW scene again. The 2nd campaign will run in 3 stages and have both victory points for clans...and fame points for players.

Rewards seem pretty solid - top 10 000 players get the VK7201, top clans get a ton of gold
1st place - 1 000 000 (!)

This is a good change btw. As you should remember - in the previous Global Campaign, people who wanted an M60 could "migrate" to a strong clan and get one, even if they were noobs. Fame points will make that impossible - you will have to do your part. However, it is likely, that there will be "fame points" farming between neighbours - sending attacks and going for a beer while the gents pump up damage etc. We will wait and see what WG comes around with.

Test 2 vehicle changes from wotnews

Oookay so the tier 8 and tier 9 Waffentragers get a very mean nerf bat, rather unnecessary one...They were fine as they were, perhaps Wargaming is trying the old and tested "Lets have some bad vehicles in the line so that people Free XP through them for goldz!" method? Hard to say. Apart from that, an odd extra is a nerf to T7 combat car penetration - 50 cal BMG is used only on the M2 Light tank where it can penetrate merely 22mm. Guess someone did not consider their numbers first.  I doubt there will be a Test 3, so we can probably expect patch 8.9 in the next couple of weeks.

Clan renaming is now available

http://worldoftanks.eu/en/news/44/clan-renaming-announcement/

Clan leaders can now rename their clans, change flags and tags. Its not free of course - it costs gold. Still, a basic feature that should have been in from the start is finally in. One thing the article does not mention, is how much does it cost in gold. Could a clan leader check it out and post in the comments?

Price is 2000 gold as it seems. Not too much, but not too little either.

World of tanks Generals - Panzer Yu-Gi-Oh?

An article appeared in wotnews, showing some screenies and information about World Of tanks Generals, the upcoming browser based card game with(well duuuh) tanks.

With 3 starting nations - Germany, USA, USSR and more coming, it will be played on a 3x5 field with turn based gameplay. Players will have various decks that include HQs, tanks, artillery, bonuses etc. The Objective would be to destroy the enemy HQ card.

As expected cards will have various stats of attack and defense, and be able to move around the field. Also - just as with WoT, there will be a tech tree and creds and experience gain, allowing you to upgrade your vehicle park.

Oh look, your T-34 evolved into a 85! Well, something like that at least...Gold will be (as ever) present too, with its usual gigs - premium cards, consumables etc.

I don't know, might be fun...Or at least something to kill time while the servers are down/restarting?

Wot funnies 10

Longest Subway of them all...

Skype convo:
- Platoon?
-Can't. Just couple of rounds while wife is in the bathtub.
- Meh, just lock the door and let's go.

World of tanks 8.9 supertester vehicles.

Soo while the rest of us are busy trying to get into the test servers, which are, as usual, overloaded as hell, supertesters get some troll cars to play with. Info comes from FTR, so its reliable.

The Mk VI Light,

A rather iconic tiny race car from Vickers Armstrong.

Ingame we already have one vehicle conversion - the german tier one arty, so you can guess the dimensions.

The actual tank we get is the MK VIC, armed with the 15mm Besa gun.

Odds are, that this will be a prem tank, probably a reward. After all, New Year's is coming.

The other one is the T7 combat car, US LT.
I believe that here we are looking at one of the variants of the M1 combat car - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_Combat_Car

Specifically, the M1A1, because of the turret shape.

Armed with a 50 cal, its not exactly a powerhouse, but perfectly adequate prem tank.

Official WoT site post about the 7/42 mode

http://worldoftanks.eu/en/news/46/development-team-battle-mode/

Well, we've heard a lot about it coming.
More or less the 7/42 mode is just company mode lite with one important bonus - skill based MM. Skill based matchmaking is something that we've been hearing about, talking about, thinking about and discussing since the beginning of time. It will be interesting to see how Wargaming does this one. The article does not mention when to expect it though. Its unlikely to be ready for wot patch 8.9 but it might, just might be there for patch 9.0.

I mean it was supposed to be ground breaking right?

The pros and cons of having planes and tanks together (WoT, WoWP and War thunder thinking cap)

World of tanks is all about tanks.

World of warplanes is all about planes.

War Thunder wants to be all about war.

Having machines from all branches of the military (air, ground, sea) actively engage each other on a single map while player control does sound fun. But is it?!

The answer to that is...Depends.

World of tanks is all about tanks, except that fighter on the Airfield map(and i will shoot him down one day) Thus the devs have nothing else to worry about but tanks.

Same goes with WoWP and its safe to assume the policy will remain the same in WoWs.

Now, War Thunder wants to have a mixed match. On paper it sounds great. In reality, like I said, not so much. Let's give an example with (yes, again) the only other game that did it on that scale. Ye olde Battlefield 1942.

The main issue people will point out is that Air dominates ground.

Stationary AA is of little use. Mobile AA can drive off a plane at best. Tanks lose engagements with planes in 99% of the cases.

So in a plane, your only equals are other planes, and oh look - tasty kills on the ground.
In a tank you are in danger from other tanks, planes and (I assume there will be) stationary AT guns. Nobody likes being underdog. This will lead to player frustration. In a good team where adequate air support was provided it wasn't so bad. However, if there wasn't adequate cover, or the enemy had total air primacy, tanks could not do shit.

Next on the list is ships. Planes can interact and fight against ships, but to be effective you need a whole squadron. (that means AI planes because player controlled tend to go for the easier target i.e. tanks, rather than the more important). Ships can take out planes by the dozen. Tanks can't do much except the biggest stuff like Maus and IS-3. Faced with indirect ship caliber guns firing in salvoes...yeah that will end up about as you expect it to be. This will lead to serious issues, namely no one will like to play tanks in a mixed battle. That would kill the concept.

Tank warfare in Syria

For a moment, lets look at some modern tank action. Perhaps the only good thing coming out from all the fighting in Libya, Syria, Georgia etc, is that we get a ton of combat footage with soviet vehicles. Makes the war geek in all of us shed a tear of joy, even if its not the Fulda Gap.
